If you write a rough draft that you're proud of, is it most likely still shitty?
Shitty First Drafts
Quote : "The first draft is the child's draft, where you let it all pour out and then let it romp all over the place, knowing that no one is going to see it and that you can shape it later." Question : Can one feel confident enough in their first draft to propose it as their final draft?
It depends what you mean by "shitty."
ReplyDeleteI've written rough drafts that will never see the light of day but still work. They're not fantastic, but I'm capable of judging their quality and they're alright.
Don't keep the rough draft, but don't call it shit if it doesn't stink.
I believe it's better to always think your rough drafts will be shitty. If you make yourself believe that your rough draft is shitty even though it's good should motivate you to make it as less "shitty" as possible. My rough drafts have always been shitty because it's either incomplete (due to procrastination) or just complete horse shit, aka nonsense. Basically what I'm saying is that I've never been proud of any rough draft that I've done, which forced me to make something better in order to get the grade the I want.
